# Rename a barcode (full replace)

> Renames a barcode owned by the caller's organization. PUT is a full replace: barcode is the only writable field, so the body carries the complete writable surface. barcode is required and must be unique within the organization (409 if taken). Renaming is only allowed while the barcode is still unassigned: one already linked to a SKU or a style assortment returns 409 - unlink it from the style first, or create a new barcode instead. Renaming to the value the barcode already has is a no-op and returns 200. linkedToSku and linkedToStyleAssortment are maintained by the system and are rejected if supplied. The route id wins; the body carries no id. A barcode that exists in no organization returns 404, one belonging to a different organization returns 403.
