Omitted fields are left unchanged (preserve-on-omit). A 'replace' to null on a nullable scalar (userDefinedId, maxChar, allowedDecimals, parentCustomFieldId) clears that field; omit it to preserve. allowedValues follows replace-set semantics: touching it (replace/add/remove) rewrites the full set, omitting it preserves all rows. Patch paths targeting read-only fields (/position) or unknown fields return 400. state=deleted is rejected; use DELETE so delete-time rules fire.
